The Times They Are a Changin'

United States yacht brokerage sales volume in 2010 has been running ahead of 2009 all year. According to YachtWorld.com member brokers, who report their May 2010 sales in the proprietary database SoldBoats.com, unit sales were up 7 percent from 3020 to 3219, and total value of the sales increased 24 percent, from $264 million to $327 million. Year to date, the increases have been 22 percent and 39 percent, respectively. 

Mid-sized and bigger boats had the best unit-sales gains in May 2010 compared to May 2009: boats 36 to 45 feet were up 27 percent to 685 boats, 46 to 55 feet up 33 percent to 157 boats, and above 55 feet were up 38 percent to 84 boats.

What's the take-away here? More than likely we have reached a point of diminishing returns from waiting out the market in anticipation of ever lower prices. As the market rebounds, the balance of power is shifting away from buyers. So, if there's a boat you want, it's still more
than possible to get a great deal, just don't sit on the fence too long.

The New 76'/80' Offshore Series Moves Forward

The first of Offshore's new 76'/80' model line, a 76 Pilothouse
and two 80 Pilothouses (Hull #80026 and # 80029),
are now commissioned and cruising.

An 80' Pilothouse with extended cockpit (Hull# 80031) is also
AVAILABLE, and is now under construction but still early enough in
the process to accomodate most customization requests .
